Last week Jaqueline got in contact with a 16 year old girl who is two months pregnant. We went to see her at her house on thursday, but she wasn't at home. Her mom, lets call her Leandra, told us the story about her family.

Leandra got her first baby when she was 13 years old. She has five children in the age three to 22 years old. The family used to live in one of the two large buildings in the slum "Vila Dias" that Reborn Hope works in. The building burned in september, and the family is living temporarily in a house nearby. She was happy to tell us that the government is now going to pay for her housing somewhere else. Leandra receives diapers that are torn from a factory, and then repairs them and sells them. In this way she can provide for her family.

She was frustrated with her daughters pregnancy, and said she should have known better than getting herself in this situation. The daughter doesn't know who the father is. Reborn Hope will work with this pregnant girl, to support her in her pregnancy and when the baby is born. We also hope that working with girls that aren't pregnant will prevent this from happening to her peers.
