Art of respect - week 3

Last wednesday October 16, we started to paint the wood. First a short explanation how to make a painting, where to start. How you can make depth in the painting. And some explanation about mixing colors.

And there they go!
This groep first talked about what color they would like to use. The whole background in blue. Later on they wrote the word respect, and made flowers around it. The painting is not ready yet. They will continue this week!

We see talent @ Vila Dias. This boy started with drawing. And later on the rest of the group helped with painting the flowers. Looking forward to see this painting ready!

                                           Good teamwork is this team!

Everyone did their part!

Look how expressive!
They wrote: Respect is good and ik like it!

Sometimes a little help of a teacher was needed.

And wat a concentration and fun we saw this week!
The art of respect, brings joy for them and for us aswell!

Art of Respect - Photoblog - week 2

Today we brought the wood to the community centre, and of course this beautiful ladies want to be in the picture!

We decorated the classroom with different yellow papers, to show again where we are working with. We talked with them about respect. And lot of children named, that you need to be respectful to older people. Really good! But also that respect start with yourself. The way you want to be treated, is showing this in the way you treat others.
We explained about the art that we are going to maken. Art about repect!

In groups they had to think about what they want to say with their painting. Do you want to draw it, or do you want to use some text for your painting.

Every kid started to make a drawing or text on their own paper, and then they needed to make from all this ideas one drawing, what they will use for their big painting

Respect to be respected!

Respect, and a drawing of a sun, mountains and the see.

Compassion for older people is showing respect!

And this detailed drawing shows it aswel. Respect the older people!

Respect is good, and we like it!

The "Art of Respect" Week 1 What a good start!

Smiles and some hurrays from the kids of Vila Dias, after our explanation of the art project. To be honest the hurrays where especially after telling we would have a party at the end. But the smiles kept on being on their faces while playing the game: "know your team". A game to practice already to work in a team. And to talk with them about the subject: respect. One group was pretty enthusiastic and wanted to play the game twice! What a fun it was! We could see that the subject respect is not so easy to put in practice for everyone. How do you do this when you were not teached at home, how to do this. So we are challenged to show some love and patience when we helping them to practice this during our project. With this blog some pictures so you can catch a little of the atmosphere!

The children on wednesday and thursday are going to make the paintings.

On friday we make the decorations for the party we will have at the end, the first of november. The children did enjoy this so much, as you can see on the pictures.
How proud they where, with showing the decorations to the other children.
In the picture top left, you see papers with different words. One of the girls wrote them. It showed me that they are really thinking about the topic we have. She wrote: respect, peace, trust, honesty, friendship, happiness. And with this papers she made the decorations! Wow! with these words you can truly decorate a party, and what a joy it brings to have these "decorations" in our lifes!

We are also really happy to share with you, that all the money we needed for this project is given to us. Thanks so much for everybody who is involved. Also in praying and showing interest in our project! Big thanks on behalve of the children of Vila Dias!

Update: "the art of respect"

One and a half week to go! 2 october we will have the start of the project "the art of respect" in Vila Dias Belo Horizonte.

Preparations
The preparations are going well! I'm busy to make a powerpoint presentation, to make the explanation of the project clear and visual. And making process in this preparation, my enthusiasm is also growing. Hope this works contagious to the children!

The subject respect/teamwork is going to be teached is a relaxed way. We are going to play a game with the kids. The basic we use is of the game we know as "game of the goose". But for now added with questions, who needs to be answered per team before they can make a move forward. We also do steps like "you worked well together as a team" you can make 5 steps forward. To make it for every age understandable.

Encouraging
Also in Holland a lot of work is been done! Wooden pallets has been transformed to cool items for the house, magazine standards, wooden hearts with text, shutters for the window etc. My sister, the creative brain behind this action, decided that all the money she will receive with selling these items will go to our project. People also want to give money personal. It's so cool to see!

At this moment we have 486,00 euros together

First purchases
The wood is bought! Together with a colleague i went to a nearby wood shop. And it turned out to be cheaper than expected. The wood that would be perfect for outside, we could buy in the size 2,75 x 1,22. So we would need 2 of them to have the 4 wooden plates of 1x1 mtr that we would like to have. We decided to divide the wood in three plates, so we have now 6 plates, through which we can involve more children to make art! The expectation was that we had to wait at least 3 weeks before our order would be ready. Guess what? The next day we could already pass by and pick up the wood!

This will give us time to paint all the wood first with the primer. And to sandpaper the wood that we need for the finishing touch around the work of arts. On the planning is also to buy the paint.
I am so happy about how everything is going. That a dream from a while ago, actually is going to happen now. A dream that began with a thought, a thought that i shared with my colleague. From sharing this more ideas came. And this ideas together became "the art of respect". And in following everything is becoming more and more concrete, and even more people are excited about it! Dreaming is fun! But seeing a dream come true is awesome!

About the picture above: On the places you see the girls, we will have the art works on the wall at the end of october!
